On 14 September 2025, BJ Marthel International Inc., in partnership with JCI Alabang, made waves for sustainability with a successful coastal and underwater clean-up drive in the world-famous diving destination of Anilao, Batangas. Known for its rich marine biodiversity, Anilao is not only a diver’s paradise but also a vital ecosystem that must be preserved for future generations.
Turning Trash into Treasure
The initiative, called “Trash to Treasure,” went beyond collecting debris. Volunteers, divers, and community partners joined forces to:
-
Remove plastics and waste materials from the shoreline and seabed.
-
Protect coral reefs and marine life threatened by pollution.
-
Raise awareness on the importance of marine conservation and community-led sustainability.
What seemed like a small step—collecting litter—became a big leap toward restoring balance in our oceans. Every piece of trash removed was a piece of marine life saved, proving that collective action leads to powerful impact.
Why Coastal Clean-Ups Matter
The Philippines, with over 36,000 kilometers of coastline, faces growing challenges from plastic waste and environmental neglect. Activities like this not only clean our waters but also:
-
Educate communities about responsible waste management.
-
Inspire youth and local groups to join conservation efforts.
-
Support global calls for climate action and sustainable living.
Making Waves of Change
The clean-up is just the beginning. Both JCI Alabang and BJ Marthel International are committed to continuing projects that promote environmental stewardship, sustainable development, and stronger community engagement.
Together, we showed that what may look like trash today can become the treasure of tomorrow: a healthier, cleaner, and more resilient environment. 💙
